New extension

Hey, Joe. Can you install this extension [1], please? When you install this, I believe, I could do maps linking each section of Webmin screenshots with articles. I hope this can be useful for readers. Regards --RobRoy (talk) 13:06, 22 November 2014 (EST)

A few old pages

Please check this category Category:For_deletion and review pages which, I think, should be deleted because are not necessary in MediaWiki. Regards. --RobRoy (talk) 04:08, 18 February 2015 (EST)

Hey. Thank you very much for your last message. I must say that you almost shocked me. I didn't expect so generous gratitude and I think Arent did better work than me (I am very limited with time). Anyway - I belive this wiki can be more live and please create as many links pointing here as you can. I think there should be pinned info message about wiki on forum as well. I also read your forum posts about low revenue from webmin. My advice is "let's create wiki" - but then search for people who know this system perfectly (you will be able to see who knows what after their edits) and then hire them to give paid support for other unexperienced users. This way Webmin will be able to gain so more money. But we need more wiki users, because I'm rather not good enough to fit this role. That was just my idea, which you can consider. Kind regards.--RobRoy (talk) 18:58, 15 March 2015 (EDT)

Popular pages

... I wonder if there's some kind of counter for MediaWiki to show the number of visits for each page?...

For this purposes, I think, this utility can be useful for you Special:PopularPages. You can find it in main menu Special:SpecialPages.

Hi Joe, Could you set

$wgRestrictDisplayTitle = false;

in LocalSettings.php? That way it is possible to use {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} in a more advanced way (for instance on the main page ;-) - Arent (talk) 06:22, 17 March 2015 (EDT)

Hi Joe,

I've seen some initial efforts to translate the Webmin documentation into Spanish.

Of course reading one owns language makes comprehension easier, but in the case of Webmin documentation I doubt whether possible gains are worth our efforts, no matter what destination language. The translation tools do clutter up the original sources as well.

By the way, I guess that someone who is able to install and (try to) use tools like Webmin, more than likely can read enough English to read the original docs. In fact, when using translated documentation, quite often I have to guess what the original expression in English would have been to understand what is written. I tend to skip translations and read the English docs. It is difficult enough to keep software and documentation in sync, translations (and maintaining them!) complicate that significantly. Unless a skilled translation squad is teaming up to start translating seriously, I'd suggest to remove the translation stuff.

Just my 2 cents... Arent (talk) 15:15, 20 March 2015 (EDT)

Moving pictures

Hi Joe, I was wondering, can you move to wiki all old pictures, which are currently linked externally. I suppose that all these files are on the same server where wiki is, and this is pointless job for me to download and upload again, as I did in this example here. Keeping picture files in wiki can help in control of current webmin screens, because many screens are currently outdated. I think, you can do this task with help of your bot or just copy files from to wiki and I do the rest. Kind regards. --RobRoy (talk) 04:33, 28 March 2015 (EDT)

It seems that you've installed great extension. I didn't know it but I like it from the first sight. Just one question - why you didn't copy already known spam links from wikipedia? This can help fight with spam much quicker than collecting own spamlinks for the next days, don't you think? This is only my opinion - I would copy all this from here [2]. Regards. --RobRoy (talk) 19:33, 30 March 2015 (EDT)

I used to have heaps of spam on some of my wiki's (200-500/day). The only real effective countermeasure back in 2012 turned out to be ConfirmEdit with Asirra (cats/dogs pictures). Unfortunately Asirra is no longer functional. I am now using QuestyCapcha with a bunch of home made questions and that keeps away spam-bots 100% (since October 2014). Questions could be of the kind: 'which version of Cloudmin is current', 'How many pictures are on the main page (in writing)'; easy for a human but almost impossible for a bot. (BTW, it's easiest if you reply below the question instead of on my talk page, discussion is kept together) - Arent (talk) 05:08, 31 March 2015 (EDT)

spam again

Hi Joe, I'd suggest to disable account creation until we found a way to combat this kind of spam...

$wgGroupPermissions['*'    ]['createaccount']  = false;

Perhaps you can run to get rid of all deleted pages that clutter recentpages and bloat the pages-table size - Arent (talk) 07:52, 19 March 2017 (EDT)

$wgEmailAuthentication = true;
$wgEmailConfirmToEdit  = true;

translation of module list

hi, can you mark the latest version of module list for translation? e.g. the number of modules was changed from 113 to 116 and some module links was updated.

additionally I changed the number of modules to a value, so it dont need to translate if it changes.

additionally 2 my gernan translation section webmin is marked as out if date, even its newly translated
